Rad Reading – October

This month I read the second book in the Divergent trilogy. I read Insurgent by Veronica Roth. Insurgent is a Science-Fiction dystopian novel. In this book the main character Tris, is divergent. She is my favorite character. The government feels the need to kill and test on all of the divergent. Tris tries to hide from the government but since she is selfless she turns herself in to stop the suicides that have happened because the government mind controls people into killing themselves in order to make Tris turn herself in. As soon as Tris turns herself in they begin a series of tests on the divergent mind in order to make a simulation that divergents are not immune too. The character Tris is selfless. She proves this over and over again when she is hurting herself to protect others. An example of this is when she decides to go first on a rickety ladder to test that it’s safe having no regard for her own life in order to protect the lives of others. A quote from this book that proves Tris’s selflessness is, “‘I’ll go’ I say before Marcus has the chance to.” My favorite quote from this book is “We both have war inside us. Sometimes it keeps us alive. Sometimes it threatens to destroy us.” -Veronica Roth, Insurgent (Pg. 242). This is my favorite quote because it explains that when there is a lot going on sometimes it motivates but sometimes it’s too much. I loved this book because it was very action packed and it never got boring.

The Extravagant Trade

If I could trade places with anyone, it would be Anne from the show Anne With An E. I would trade places with her because I just love the time period she lives in. She also has beautiful red hair that is like fire. She has a best friend and she is brilliant. She is just very much like me, but she lives in another time period which I would love to be a part of. Everything from her characteristics to the way she dresses and speaks is just perfect. She also lives on a farm and she gets to ride horses like i have always wanted. If I could be anyone, I would be Anne Shirley-Cuthbert.

My Perfect Day

Today I will describe my perfect day. My perfect day would start with me waking up not tired and seeing all of my 15 cats and a hamster cuddle me. Then I would put on a gown to meet Taylor Swift with my best friend, Kaitlyn. All of my cats would trail after me and we would arrive at Taylor’s house and she would release an exclusive album for just us. Then she would give us front row seating to all of her future Eras Tour locations and we would get to travel the world with her. She would give us the twenty-two hat and we would be so happy when we go back home to see all of our cats. We would then get into an nice warm bath and we would soak in there for a bit to relax from our exiting day. We would read Jane Eyre and sit by the fireplace with all of my cats. Taylor would then invite us to one of her secret sessions the next day. We would fall asleep to the sound of the rain and thunder pounding on the roof shingles as we drift into our deep sleep in our cozy cottage in the woods in Norway. Right before we fell asleep we saw the northern lights.

Sensational Seventeen

If I could be any age permanently, I would be seventeen. I would be seventeen because when you are seventeen you can drive around to go to Starbucks and McDonald’s. You can also drive to your friends houses. When you are seventeen you can also work to get a steady income to provide a life of luxury for your cat. A happy cat means a happy person in my opinion. Another thing you can do when you are seventeen is have loads of cats to have fun with. I would like to have 4 cats. Then I would never get bored. These are just three of the many reasons to be seventeen forever.

The Marvelous Man

My cat Bernie is very fat and majestic. He is never clad. He walks with pride as he strolls to the kitchen to eat more. He munches and crunches on his food as he gains weight by the second. As his day progresses he has to go to the bathroom. He walks to the bathroom like a distinguished gentleman as he lays his waste in the sand of the litter box. He then walks away without covering the poo. (Because why would he cover it when someone else could do it) As my dad walks in with the premonition that he has to clean the poo. It hits him like a wall when he enters. He cleans it while crying tears of misery as he gingerly cleans the gift Bernie has left for him.

Rad Reading – September

This month I read the book One Eye Laughing, The Other Eye Weeping by Barry Denenberg. One Eye Laughing, The Other Eye Weeping is a historical fiction book about Vienna, Austria when it was occupied by Hitler’s association. The main character’s name is Julie Weiss and her family lives in the capitol of Vienna, Austria. Her family is very rich as they have many dinner parties and elegant house decor. As the war got worse, the Nazis came to Julie’s house and took her mother, father, and brother. When they got back they told her that the Nazis made them work while people yelled slurs at them. Then her mom committed suicide. Julie’s father decides the best decision is to sent her to America. She then lives with her aunt in New York, New York. She then begins her acting career. I loved that even though in the darkest times, Julie still found light in those times and persevered through it showing that she is brave and she is determined to not get herself all upset. One of my favorite quotes from this novel is, “

“I HATE borrowing books from the library. I don’t like being compelled to return them by a certain, specified time. . .All last night I imagined I could hear the book loudly ticking away as I tossed and turned, vainly trying to go to sleep. TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK, READ ME NOW, OR TAKE ME BACK.” This quote stands out to me because, like Julie, I don’t like being forced to do something at a certain time. I like having control like Julie. Julie loves being in control especially because there are lots of things she can’t control.

Another book I read this month was Divergent by Veronica Roth. This book is about a girl names Beatrice. In this dystopian novel Beatrice has to choose between five factions, Candor, the honest,Abegnation, the selfless, Dauntless, the brave, Erudite, the intelligent, or Amity, the peaceful. She takes the test and figures out she is a divergent which is very rare and dangerous. She now must live her life hiding this horribly dangerous secret. She chooses Dauntless and goes through their vigorous training barley passing. She makes friends and deals with betrayal. She faces hardship during the war at the very end of the book. One of my favorite quotes is, “Becoming fearless isn’t the point. That’s impossible. It’s learning how to control your fear and become free from it. That’s the point.” This is my favorite because I can relate to it and it is very powerful for me. This shows that you can still be scared of things but they will no longer hold you back from other things in life, therefore you are set free from it. Beatrice also can be very fearful sometimes. Beatrice is a very intelligent person because throughout this book she is always finding solutions that save lives.
